Responding to the new sexual health strategy, the Very Reverend Bob Key said that society was letting young people down. ‘If we feel that free condoms is the best we can do in the face of increasing promiscuity, unsafe sex and sexually transmitted disease, that is a terrible indictment of our modern society,’ he said. ‘What have we done to the next generation? We have bombarded them with the cult of celebrity that leads them to believe that perfect sex with a perfect partner should be an almost daily ritual even if it is outside any meaningful relationship and is little more than a release of bio-mechanical tension.’
