Keep saving, IoD tell the States

IoD chairman Simon Radford said that predicted long-term deficits should focus the attention of States Members, and that they should not get carried away by the upbeat Business Plan for 2008 lodged last week. Opposition to the sales tax should not delay its implementation, he added, and more should be invested in IT to help pursue efficiency savings. ‘We are entering a period of unprecedented uncertainty, and there has never been a greater need for the States to stick to the agreed fiscal strategy and continue its path of seeking efficiencies,’ said Mr Radford. ‘One matter firmly in the control of politicians is where they invest, so I was concerned to learn that Jersey is almost at the back of the pack when it comes to investment in IT.’
