U-turn over sale of JCG

The States will hold out for a higher price and a new market valuation following an independent report on the controversial plan to sell the huge La Pouquelaye building and site for just £1.8m. Senator Le Sueur has agreed to follow the findings of a Scrutiny report, published today, which recommends that the Treasury Department commission a new valuation based on the recently issued planning permit to build nine three-bedroom houses and 47 flats on the site. A deal seemed to have been reached to sell the site to Grange Developments Limited for £1.8m plus a share of the profits, but States Members led by Deputy Rob Duhamel protested that the price was too low. The Treasury said the deal would be worth around £3m in total, but the States voted to support the Deputy’s call for a delay and an un-named developer claimed he would double the proposed price.
