Kayak trio saved in rescue from cave

The incident has prompted fresh warnings about the dangers of going to sea on sit-on-top kayaks without the correct training or equipment. At around 3 pm, the St Catherine lifeboat and the Fire Service’s inshore rescue boat were launched following reports that the three were trapped in a cave. They were part of a party of five who had paddled on sit-on-top kayaks to Little Grève de Lecq beach, a spot which is east of the main beach and only accessible by sea. The group, who were aged in their late teens or early twenties, had a barbecue and camped in a cave. However, by yesterday morning the weather had worsened considerably. Two managed to get off the beach in the morning, but the remaining three became trapped by 5 ft swell and force five winds.
