Senator Walker said that there had to be a better method of dealing with the question of pay deals than ‘the traditional way’ which has meant negotiations still continue now on a settlement that should have been in pay packets last June. The Senator spoke out after striking a deal last week to get manual workers and other pay groups back to the negotiating table when it looked like a strike ballot was inevitable. ‘It is quite wrong we have a process where nearly every single year the Island is threatened with industrial action by the manual workers,’ he said.
