For the next four weeks applications to install mobile equipment in the Island will be put on hold while Senator Freddie Cohen looks into taking ‘urgent action’ to force companies to share masts.
Next week States Deputy Patrick Ryan also plans to call for a public inquiry, questioning how mobile companies have been allowed to put equipment in fields in the name of introducing competition into the industry.
Senator Cohen’s decision comes following a public meeting in Grouville on Wednesday, when parishioners expressed their concerns about an application from Jersey Airtel to install a 60-foot mast in a field on Grouville Hill.
