Phil Helleur grabbed his second hat-trick of the season as Sporting Academics won for the second time, 8-0 at Les Quennevais against St John, who remain in bottom place on three points, below St Lawrence and Beeches OB on goal-difference.
There were also doubles from Jonny Irwin and Ben Gallichan and a single by junior Craig Beeley.
First Tower United, who have played a game more, moved to within two points of Division I Reserves leaders Rozel Rovers after winning 5-1 at Jersey Wanderers.
Michael Teixeira and Wayne Shales hit doubles and Michael Agrela a singles for Tower, with Wanderers gaining a consolation through Nelson De Freitas.
Third-placed St Peter returned 4-2 victors from Trinity, where Bradley Russell and Gary Freeman both scored twice for the visitors.
Graham Ling also notched a pair for the hosts.
Jersey Scottish scored six times without reply against St Brelade at Les Quennevais, junior Jack Boyle and Reuben Legge scoring twice and Alun Thorne and Jason O’Prey (penalty) once each.
Portuguese Reserves and St Lawrence Reserves won preliminary round Lady Bingham Trophy matches, Portuguese 5-1 at Les Quennevais against St Martin/SCF Reserves and St Lawrence 1-0 at St John Reserves, where Michael Martini hit the only goal.
Paulo Correia (two), Manuel Alves, Milton Freitas and Valerio Figueira registered for Portuguese and Paul Kemp for St Martin/SCF.
Magpies’ Paul Cilia broke a collarbone in his team’s 9-0 defeat by St Paul’s in Division II Reserves at the FB Fields.
Leon Da Silva, Gary Bateley and Jon Rabey were on target in St Peter’s 3-2 Division C success against Sporting Academics at the FB Fields.
Ged Horgan struck both for the losers, leaving St Peter in fourth spot just two points behind the leaders.
