At Les Ormes yesterday in an all-British quarter-final Ian Flanagan defeated No 2 seed Matt Smith, who won the last pro event at Les Ormes in September, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Flanagan now faces fellow Brit and third seed Alan Mackin in the semi-final.

Mackin despatched German qualifier Eric Scherer 7-5, 6-2 in their second-round encounter.

The other semi-final will be between seventh seed Philipp Marx from Germany and qualifier Laurent Recouderc of France.

Marx defeated British fourth seed Martin Lee 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) in the quarter-final, while Recouderc was involved in arguably the match of the tournament.

Facing top seed Jacob Adaktusson of Sweden, the advantage went backwards and forwards between the pair until the Frenchman finally triumphed 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

Meanwhile, two Britons have progressed into the quarter-finals of the Caversham $25,000 Ladies International.

Fourth seed Anne Keothavong defeated Switzerland’s Gaelle Widmer 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), while wild card entrant Rebecca Llewellyn produced a fine performance to beat third seed Elise Tamaela 6-4, 7-5.

Only three seeds remain in the last eight, all of them in the bottom half of the draw.

Llewellyn faces Germany’s Angelika Roesch in her quarter-final in the top half of the draw, while Keothavong faces the unseeded Czech Janette Bejlkova.

The top two seeds in both the men’s and ladies doubles went through to the semi-finals.

Top seeds Colin Fleming and Jamie Murray from Britain will play the German third seeds Bastian Knittel and Peter Mayer-Tischer.

Second seeds Martin Lee and David Sherwood booked their place in the final with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over fourth seeds Joshua Goodall and Richard Irwin in an all-British tie this morning.

In the ladies doubles Britain’s Elena Baltacha, knocked out in the first round of the singles, has progressed to the semi-final with her partner Margit Ruutel of Estonia.

Spectators are welcome at Les Ormes.
