Volleyball:Dingle takes over Jersey men’s team

Said current JVA president Paul Adamson: ‘He’s taking over from Lee Ingram, who has coached the team so well over the last couple of years.

Lee has done a brilliant job, but he plays in the team as well, and it’s very difficult to do both jobs.

Dingle co-founded the JVA, with Denis Le Breuilly, in 1975, but moved to live in the UK shortly afterwards.

‘Sadly, his wife died earlier this year,’ said Adamson.

‘Dan has retired now and moved back home so we’re really thrilled that he wanted to get back into the sport.

He also wants to help with getting the kids involved, which is great.’ And there will be continuity for the successful Ladies side too as their coach, Peter Cadiou, will be staying on in the role.

‘He said he would do the job for two years, and he’s done that,’ Adamson said.

‘I thought he might decide to retire from that post after his two years were up, especially after the disappointment of only just missing out on the bronze medal at the Island Games this year.

But he’s decided to stay on, and will be building up the new ladies’ squad.

We’re all thrilled he’s staying on.’ And the second half of the Insurance Corportation league reopens in the second week of January and promises two tight matches, with the first- and second-placed teams in both the men’s and ladies’ divisions facing off.

‘In the ladies’ 2e2 Panthers play defending champs Insurance Corporation Jets.

Panthers beat Jets in their first encounter this season – and the men’s champions, Pentagon Red Hot Tomatoes, who I play for, have lost to Astros this season, so those will be tough matches, especially after the Christmas break,’ said Adamson.
