The diesel spilt as a sub-contractor attempted to lift the container tank from the site onto the road for removal.
Sand was poured over the area in an attempt to soak it up but heavy rain over the weekend washed much of the sand away.
Gerry Jackson of the Environment Department confirmed that his team were called to the site, operated by a company named Trant, beside the car park at the Vic in the Valley pub on Thursday afternoon.
‘We were there all day Friday because the diesel certainly got into the brook and like all brooks in Jersey it runs into the sea,’ he said.
He said his department were investigating whether or not there had been an offence committed under the Water Pollution Jersey Law 2000 and was therefore unable to comment further on the incident.
