He said he could not believe the number of people who had got in touch to say that they were sad to learn that he would no longer be a States Member, having finished in fourth place in the election of Deputy for St Helier No 1 district.
He was only seven votes behind third-placed Deputy Patrick Ryan and 46 votes behind the district’s poll-topper, Senator Paul Le Claire, who is now a Deputy-elect.
Deputy Dorey finished in seventh place in a field of 15 candidates in the Senatorial election in October, missing out on one of the six available seats.
He was first elected as a States Member in 1993 as Deputy for the district and was re-elected in 1996.
In February 1999 he was elected as a Senator to replace the late Vernon Tomes, but resigned in the summer of that year.
But he was back in the political arena in November 1999 when the electors of St Helier No 1 put him back in the States as a Deputy, and he was re-elected for a further three years in 2002.
‘People have been terribly nice and I have had a lot of kind messages,’ he said.
‘I want to thank the people of St Helier for their support and the team who assisted me in my campaign,’ he said.
