Goals from the majestic Brazilian Manduca, Fahel, two from Kanu, one from on-loan Chelsea midfielder Filipe Oliveira and another from Evaldu sealed a comfortable win for the Madeirans.
Springfield was flooded with green and red, with Maritmo fans making up 90 per cent of the crowd.
And in true continental style they had Springfield rocking as they spurred on their side – scenes all too rare in modern Jersey football.
Jersey kept the Madeirans at bay for 17 minutes but the deadlock was broken with the first corner of the match.
The ball was knocked short from the right to left winger Manduca, who whipped in a peach of a cross that was headed in by midfielder Fahel.
Spurred on by centre backs Scott Devlin, Jersey Scottish’s player of the season and captain on the day, and Trinity man David Lloyd, Jersey kept their heads and went in only one down at the break.
But Mar?tmo doubled that lead two minutes into the second half through Kanu.
Junior Baia’s cheeky backheal on 70 minutes carved through the Jersey defence and released Manduca who made it 3-0.
Kanu’s penalty on 83 minutes made it 4-0 and a minute later Evaldu made it five as Jersey’s legs began to tire.
A sweet move involving three players and three one-touch passes was finished off by Oliveira to make it six.
Mar?tmo coach Rui Rodriguez said: ‘Jersey showed great discipline and I think it was the fitness that beat them in the end.
‘The atmosphere in the stadium was great and it was like a home game for us.
We would love to come back next year, and no disrespect to the Jersey side, but if we could play a professional English team on that beautiful pitch it would be superb.’ Jersey manager Kevin Macarthy said: ‘I thought we were excellent for an hour.
Our game plan was to stay in the game and anything else was a bonus.
‘We’ve been working on that game plan for two weeks and Joey Morley and Paddy O’Toole have been a great help.
‘They are a quality side and the lads aren’t disappointed because they’ve given a good account of themselves today.’ Teams: Jersey Combination: Carlos Rebero, Shaun Irvine, Paul Duxbury, David Lloyd, Scott Devlin (c), John Beatson, Helio de Freitas, Darren Swanson, John Rutter, Steven McCarter, Mark Lucas.
