In a game dominated by the appearance of youth and trial players last night, Pitman scored helping Bournemouth to a 1-1 draw away to Eastleigh.
The former Victoria College student, who has another year at under-18 level this season, curled a shot into the top right-hand corner from 12 yards before being one of nine players to be substituted at half time.
The former Junior Muratti striker has now appeared four times for Bournemouth’s first team with 45 minutes in three pre-season games against non-league opposition while on Saturday 16 July he played the final seven minutes against Premiership Charlton Athletic in a testimonial match at Dean Court.
Joe Roach, Bournemouth Head of Youth, said: ‘Brett returned from his summer break okay and he seems to have grown a bit more.
‘He has a great attitude and we are continuing to work on his flexibility.
We have changed things slightly at the club this season, we are not working as hard as previous seasons while the time-table has also changed.
‘The lads are joining in with first-team training, there is closer contact and that’s a major step forward for them.
It’s up to them to force the manager’s hand to select them for the first team.
‘Brett didn’t look out of place against Charlton and it was another learning experience for him.
That will continue for him with under-18 friendlies against Aston Villa, Watford, Southampton and Le Havre coming up before we start our U18 programme on 13 August.’ Pitman, formerly of St Paul’s and First Tower and a student on the Lloyds TSB Jersey Football Association’s School of Excellence, was voted Players’ Player of the Year by his youth team colleagues last season after scoring 35 goals in his first season on a two-year Youth Academy registration with the south-coast club.
