Deputy Maurice Dubras wanted the feasibility of using the Ronez and La Gigoulande quarries looked at, but not a single Member spoke in favour of his amendment during the debate on the £80 million waste strategy and he was defeated by 42 votes to three.

Deputy Dubras viewed landfill as an alternative to further land reclamation when La Collette II fills up.

Several Members spoke against the amendment, led by Senator Stuart Syvret, who opposed it on health and environmental grounds.

If there had to be another site for the disposal of of inert waste, he said, it should be an extension of La Collette and not on land.
