Against a strong field, teenager Higgins won the Jersey Ladies Golf Association HSBC scratch Island knock-out championship title at La Moye.
She played excellently throughout the tournament and beat the experienced former Island Games player Gloria Paradiso on her home course on the way to victory.
Higgins also won her club’s Monthly Medal competition with a course record-equalling score of 75, reducing her handicap to five.
The youngster continues to work hard at her game and her goal now is to be selected to represent Jersey in the Junior inter-insular against Guernsey in August – even though she will have to play off the men’s tees! Other golfers in contention for the latest award included Royal Jersey’s Jamie Robertson, the winner of the Pallot Bowl Open following a net 66 at Grouville therefore reducing his handicap to 12.
Royal Jersey junior Will Young won two Medal competitions to trim his handicap by three strokes to 13 while Nick House, another Royal junior, reduced his handicap from 20 to 14 following some consistent results.
Royal Jersey ladies’ secretary Isabel Bailhache had an excellent Tombstone round, finishing 126 yards from the 21st hole, in the Lady Captain’s Day event at Grouville.
At the same venue, Matthew Vincent’s four best net scores resulted in him winning the Bingham Medal.
La Moye junior Kieran Goodricke reduced his handicap from 6.7 to 4.5 following good performances in the La Moye Salver, Pallot Bowl and Junior Open tournaments.
Jersey Western’s Simon Critchley returned 44 Stableford points in his club’s Wednesday League competition to reduce his handicap to 11.
Club colleague Alan Allchin shaved three shots off his previous 16 handicap after winning Jersey Western’s Bank Holiday Medal at La Moye after a net score of 67.
Les Mielles GC’s Dean Machin returned a six-under-par round of net 62 to win his club’s Monthly Medal and lower his handicap by one stroke to 11.
The same club’s Clerical & Medical Cup went to Ian O’Brien.
He will now play two shots lower at 16 after winning with a net score of 63.
