Le Saux joined Chelsea from St Paul’s in 1988 after a remarkable season in local football which saw him net senior and junior Muratti winner’s medals while St Paul’s won the league, the Upton, the Jeremie and the Charity cups.

He scored just one goal for his country but it was a memorable one in a friendly against Brazil at Wembley.

Serious injuries disrupted his career and he missed out on Euro ’96 and Euro 2000 but played in the 1998 World Cup in France.
