As preparations are being finalised for what is likely to be the biggest ever anniversary celebrations around the Island and in the individual parishes, Sir Philip Bailhache has called on the community to show their support.

This is the final year in which the anniversary of the Liberation is likely to be marked on such a large scale and a statement issued today from the Liberation 60 committee said Sir Philip was keen for the celebratory mood to be evident throughout Jersey, particularly as the Queen would be present.

Bunting Sir Philip said that the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Jersey was a very special occasion and one which he hoped the whole Island would wish to celebrate.

‘To that end, I would be very pleased if people took the opportunity to make the Island, and St Helier in particular, as colourful as possible by decorating their properties in appropriate style,’ Sir Philip said.
