Swimming for his university town team of Coventry in the British Championships in Manchester Halksworth was a full second inside the standard with a time of 4 min 30.24 as he finished fifth in the final of the 400m individual medley.

Meanwhile three Island Abacus records were broken – two by Alexis Militis and another by Simon Le Couilliard.

Militis finished sixth in the 50m backstroke and seventh in the butterfly finals to set new standards and equalled his own Island record in the semi-final of the 50m free when he came in ninth.

His backstroke time was also a new Hampshire county record.

Le Couilliard, the youngest of the three Jersey swimmers at the championship – he was 18 during the meet – captured his record in the 100m fly with a time of 56.34 sec.

He added a 2.05.1 in the 200 fly.

Their times mean that both Le Couilliard and Militis are within 1% of their Commonwealth times a year before the Games in Melbourne.

Over the Easter weekend some Tigers will be competing at Crystal Palace while others will travel to training camps in Cyprus and Millfield.
