Led by former Planning applications sub-committee chairman Deputy Jackie Hilton, they made their case against an application from Manzoni Ltd for seven one-bedroom flats to replace workshops formerly used by Sunblinds Ltd.

The two previous applications – for nine flats and then seven units in a single building – were rejected last year, when Deputy Huet chaired the considerations.

The latest application has been amended following discussions with the sub-committee last November.

The original single block has been replaced with two smaller ones, designed to fit in with the surrounding streetscape and further away from neighbouring Clearview Villas than previously proposed.

The parish has no objections and planning officer advice is recommending approval as ‘there are no sound reasons to refuse the application’.

Four objections were received expressing concerns about the detrimental effect on residents’ properties and quality of life, traffic congestion and increased pressure on parking.
