Cann , a nominee for the Total Oil Channel Islands Sports Personality of the year, cruised through her first-round match as she beat Spaniard Patricia Perez in straight sets 11-4, 11-1.

In the second round No 4 seed Cann put friendship on hold as she brushed aside Harriet Johnson – an English girl who now represents Wales and whom Cann trained with in Denmark – 11-3, 11-5.

And she started well in her quarter final match against Switzerland’s Cucoginni, winning a tense first set 13-11.

But then her form dipped and, after several unforced errors, she lost the next two 11-5, 11-8.

Cann, who recently told the JEP that she was in the best form of her life, must now put this defeat out of her mind and focus on next week’s Swedish Open.
