The Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club has won the Alexander Forbes Motor Sports Association’s Club of the Year Award, putting the club firmly on the map and earning them a trophy and cheque for £1,000, which they will pick up in London in the new year.

In order to be considered for the award the club had to write to the MSA and prove that they were meeting certain criteria as an organisation.

Club president Terry Gorvel said: ‘Even to be shortlisted would have been a great achievement, but to win it is unbelievable.

It pays testament to all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, especially by the officials, who give so much of their time.’ Gorvel made the announcement that they had won the award at the club’s annual dinner at the Mayfair Hotel this week.

Club members will now be invited to Pall Mall in London early next year for the celebration dinner and presentation night.

‘The prestige that this brings is tremendous,’ said Gorvel.

‘This award gives our name good credentials and adds to the fact that the Bouley Bay Hill Climb is one of the best in Britain and is firmly on the map.

‘Our lanes in Jersey also provide one of the best circuits, so we are in a strong position now to progress into next year.’
