TRIATHLON: The Jersey triathlon team won their third successive inter-insular competition in Guernsey at the weekend, with the men – James Amy, Chris Westcott, Scott Pitcher, Tim Rogers, Andy Kemp, Michael Lucas and Darren Le Masurier finishing with a huge 40-minute lead, with Jenny O’Brien, in her second Olympic-distance event the first Jersey lady home.
HOCKEY: In the Minor Cup matches played on Saturday Hautlieu HC beat OV Vets 2-1; Victoria College 2nd XI beat Victoriana 8-1 and OV Victims beat Crusaders 11-0.
In the Investec Ladies Hockey League Division I, Nomads were beaten 20-1 by RWB while Caesareasn beat E&Y Quackers 6-2.
In the Development Division the scores were: JHC Juniors 1, E & Y Quackers 2B 7; Crusaders Juniors 1, E&Y Quackers 2A 1.
MOTOCROSS: The penultimate round of the championship was held yesterday at Sorel Point.
There were a few incidents in which three races were red-flagged and therefore the last block of racers had their race times cut.
Kieron Gregory won the 65 cc class and the Eastern Joinery Ltd Trophy of the day.
Meanwhile Dale Campbell won two races, despite his exhaust hanging off on the last lap of the third race while Harry Bertram won one.
Stephen Le Brun won his first small wheel 85 cc race, while Killian Dorey took full honours in the big wheel 85 cc class.
WHIPPET RACING: It took nearly three-quarters of a mile, covered yesterday in five hard-fought uphill runs at Les Landes race-course, to separate them but in the main final Coyote (Steve Lawson) took revenge for recent defeats by his brother Cadbury (David Lawson) to win the most prestigious trophy of the racing season, the Presidents Trophy.
In third place was the 2002 trophy winner Cappucina, with Jenny Thomas’s Jetstream taking a fourth spot.
Consolation race winner was John Campbell’s Karnap, with Bea and Ron de la Cour’s Plover taking the veteran of the day rosette.

BADMINTON: Elizabeth Cann beat Susan Hughes from Scotland to win the Bulgarian Open singles title at the weekend.
TENNIS: Both the veterans and the super-vets tennis teams beat their Guernsey counterparts yesterday, the vets winning by 15 matches to nine and the super-vets, playing in Guernsey, winning 16-8.
HOBIE SAILING: Winner in the Sports Catamaran class in the CI Hobie Championships was Mick Doleman and crew’s Roar Edge with Gordon Burgis and crew’s Pure Energy second overall.
In the Hobie Dragoon section the winner was Simon Thebault and crew aboard First Up, second overall was Matthew Dale and crew in Half & Half.
GOLF: Colin Boon won the Elise Dorey Bogey competition at St Clement’s GC yesterday, 4 up while Ian Marshall was second, 3 up.
BOWLS: In the Closing Day competition yesterday at St Brelade Bowls Club the four of Brian Cabot (skip), Brian Barry, Monica Fox and Joan Cauvain beat Hilton Carré (skip), Frank Doublet, Simonne Larbalestier and Ken Brown 8-4.
CYCLING: Chris Spence crossed the line first in the final sprint of the Caesarean CC 45-mile road race yesterday.
Second was Steve Greig with Danny Le Marquand third.
CROQUET: England’s Stephen Mulliner retained his title after he beat Jersey’s Matthew Burrow 3-2 in the European Croquet Championship at Les Quennevais yesterday.
Asamier Pattel beat Sarah Burrow 2-1 for third place.
MOTOR SPORT: Jersey’s Ryan Parouty won his second motor racing championship in successive seasons when he clinched the Avon Tyres Clubman 1800 Formula Ford championship at Brands Hatch at the weekend, finishing sixth in race one and eighth in race two.
BOWLS: Margaret Le Cornu and Anne Chamier won the ladies drawn pairs final at the Sun Bowls Club yesterday, beating Liz Cole and Michelle Breen 20-15.
The winning four in the Tom Kidd Trophy competition played on Saturday were Jenny Rabet, Ray Poucher, Terry Bell and Greg Davis.
SURFING: Jersey’s Nathan Elms finished a superb overall third in the Billabong British Junior championships in Newquay, Cornwall, yesterday.
Team-mate Jake Powell also did well to reach a quarter-final heat, where he finished third.
SHOOTING: The Jersey Rifle Association narrowly beat the RAF Target Rifle Club at Crabbé yesterday, 1,116 (134 V bulls) to 1,161.125.
Top scorers for Jersey were Graeme Harris, 148.24, Sue Le Cheminant, 148.22; Richard Benest 148.20 and Debbie Thompson 148.18.
The RAF’s former Queen’s Prize winner, Chris Fitzpatrick, recorded 150.23.
Jersey veterans also recorded a win over the RAF, while in the prize shoot on Saturday, Benest pipped Harris to top spot 104.19 to 104.16.
GOLF: Josh Ozard and Matthew Nicolle won La Moye GC’s Nugent Memorial Trophy Medal fourball better-ball on Saturday with a net 63.
Christopher Dickinson and Paul Reed were second with a net 64, followed by Bob Wickings and Richard Alker (65 better back nine) and Gerald Ramsden and David James (65).
GOLF: James Birch topped the table in Royal Jersey GC’s JW Messervy competition with 139 on Saturday as his two best gross scores of 68 and 71 (using first-round handicaps) left him three clear of Gavin O’Neil (73 and 69) and four ahead of Paul Le Chevalier (71 and 72) RUGBY UNION: Guernsey RFC minis did a double over the Jersey Rugby Academy on Saturday in two friendly training-style matches at the JRFC in St Peter.
The U14s went down 17-5 in a fairly even encounter played over four quarters, while the U13s lost 20-5, with Christian Foley getting the home try.
Beeches RFC got their defence of the Jersey Rugby Association Emeraude Lines championship off to a winning start at St Peter yesterday afternoon with a 17-10 defeat of Guernsey side St Jacques.
On the front pitch at St Peter Jersey Wanderers beat Les Quennevais 33-17, but there was no joy for Jersey RFC 2nds away to Guernsey 2nds as they went down 17-5.
