Jersey men’s champions Kleinwort Benson Astros beat Goldridge Stone 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 19-25, 25-21) while women’s champions Insurance Corporation Jets took on the Goldridge Stone women’s team and beat them 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-20).
In the Junior inter-insular, Guernsey beat Jersey 2-0 (25-14, 25-15).
GOLF: The result of the Demi Golf Society P.J Carter Shield competition played at St Clement’s on Saturday, was as follows: 1, Glyn Wilkes, 39 points off 11 handicap; 2, Rich Schollhammer, 38 pts off 17 handicap; 3, Miguel de Castro, 38 pts off 15 handicap and a hole-in-one at the sixth.
BOWLS: In the final of the Collas and Le Sueur Cup competition played over the weekend, Sue Dingle beat Karina Bisson(Horman) by 21 shots to 13.
SURFING: Longboarder Joe Davies(17) finished second overall in the junior section of the British Longboard Championships at Fistral, in Cornwall.
POWERBOATS:World champion 2-litre powerboat racer Roy Smith began the defence of his National Offshore title in Torquay on Sunday by winning the first race of the season in his newly-named boat Condor Ferries.
PETANQUE: Yesterday’s annual Jean Pierre Memorial doubles competition, organised by the Carrefour Pétanque Club, was won by Chris Romeril and Keith Boleat with ten wins and 71 points.
Second were Rob and Bernie Birch, with eight wins and 58 points, third were Sid and Marion Simkin and fourth were Tim and Barbara Bechlet.
BOWLS: In the weekend’s games in the Lawrence de Gruchy Premier League organised by the Jersey Bowling Association the results were as follows: St Brelade BC 3, Sun BC 0; St Saviour and the Post Office won one, lost one and drew one; Jersey BC 3, Les Creux 0.
St Brelade currently have ten points; JBC have nine; St Saviour’s BC have six; Les Creux BC two.
The St Saviour’s Bowl Club Bank Holiday competitions saw the Le Corre Trophy, for men, won by Bryan Simon, Mick Baudin, Louis Goudehart and Marcel Houzé.
They beat Vernon Pallot, Derek Ferguson, Keith Laffoley and Geoff Delauney by 13 shots to five.
The ladies’ final, for the Ann Waite Trophy, was won by Nancy Harris, Doreen Foster, Pat Lyons and Rae de la Haye.
They beat Joyce Laffoley, Sylvia Tardival, Anne Shepherd and Gill Shilton by 14 shots to eight.
CLAY PIGEON: The 50-bird sporting competition held at Crabbé saw Kevin Simon win the Class A High gun with 37 ex 50.
James Angus and Alex Shakeshaft tied in first place in Class B with 27 ex 50 while in Class C Clive Green won, with 30 ex 50.
GOLF: The Royal Jersey’s Pallot Bowl was won by Alan Maclean with a gross 77, nett 65, off a handicap of 12 yesterday.
Leo Mansell with a gross 69 off a handicap of three and Robin Baird with a gross 79 with a handicap of ten were second and third respectively.
All three golfers belong to Les Mielles Golf Club.
BOWLS: The Ron Medder pairs competition, organised by the Sun Bowls Club, was won by David de Gruchy (skip) with Mark Le Quesne yesterday (eight points, 42 shots).
Second were Tim Knight (skip) with Jackie Knight (eight points, 20 shots).
GOLF: La Moye Golf Club’s Concord Trophy was won by Barbara and Ken Hewitt on Sunday, with 40 points.
Behind them, with 38 points, were Mr and Mrs D Warwick and third, with 35 points, were Mr and Mrs A Tagg with 35.
GOLF:The May Medal played for yesterday at Wheatlands Golf Course was won by Roy Evans, with a gross 72 off a handicap of 26.
Second was G Brown (68 gross, 19 handicap) and third was D Gibaut (78 gross, handicap 24).
In the women’s competition Carol Allen won, with a gross 86 off a handicap of 24.
Second was Pat Creighton (89 gross, handicap 23); third was Linda Spence (97 gross, 26 handicap).
BOWLS:The annual friendly match between St Saviour’s BC and St Brelade’s BC was won by St Saviour’s on Sunday, four rinks to three and 109 shots to 102.
BOWLS: In their annual match against Hangar Hill the Jersey Bowling Association won all four triples’ games at Le Creux BC on Saturday afternoon.
GOLF: At La Moye Golf Club on Saturday the Royal Jersey’s Matthew Parkman won the La Moye Salver 2004 with a gross 71 off a handicap of two.
Second was Peter Allen, 82 gross, handicap 12; third was Steve de la Haye, 80 gross, handicap nine.
FOOTBALL: John Rutter scored both Tower’s goals in a 2-2 friendly away to Mon de Ville in Caen on Saturday.
Against skilful and technical opponents, Tower were denied victory by a last-minute equaliser.
SHOOTING: The Jersey Rifle Association beat visitors the National RA by eleven points over the weekend.
Also at the Crabbé range in St Mary, Jersey markswoman Mary Norman won the Prize shoot with a score of 545.65 pushing Bruce Horwood, 544.71, into second place.
CRICKET: The Jersey Island Cricket Club and tourists Young Lord’s Taverners Buccaneers drew a time and declaration match at Grainville on Sunday.
Both teams scored 156 runs with JICC failing to the seven runs for victory off the final over.
BASKETBALL: Jersey lost the inaugural under-17 inter-insular against Guernsey on Saturday at the Langford Sports Hall.
GOLF: Alan Leitch won St Clement Golf Club’s Ann Street Open at St Clement on Saturday with a net score of 58 off seven handicap.
Richard Rothwell was runner-up with 59 off six while the scratch prize winner, with a gross 61, was former professional Gavin O’Neill.
