Angie Petkovic, who discovered the ‘lost’ gardens in 2002, is pressing ahead with a planning application to turn the Rozel hotel’s grounds into an international attraction.
‘As far as I’m concerned it is still the right thing for Jersey and the tourism industry.
I am not giving up on local funding as I don’t believe in giving up.’ she said.
Her fighting talk comes after several setbacks, such as the Tourism Development Fund withdrawing a £1.6 million grant, and the collapse of a trust to administer the project.
Ms Petkovic said the project has stalled, but obtaining planning permission would enable her to seek the money needed to restore Victorian botanist Samuel Curtis’s gardens.
Last week she submitted information to Planning about a proposed park and ride scheme from Route de Rozel – near the former La Tourelle Hotel – to the gardens and Rozel Harbour.
