Fourteen-year-old Les Quennevais School pupil Keiran Goodricke won a Stableford competition at Northants, with an excellent score off 44 points, while the following day he played eight shots under his handicap, now reduced to 11, to win the Winchester Open with a net score of 66.Goodricke played the back nine holes first in 41 shots before returning the front nine in 37.
The teenager scored a birdie at the par-4 13th but it was his consistency throughout the round that resulted in him finishing top after nine pars and eight birdies.Goodricke said: ‘I enjoyed both rounds.
It’s good to play on different courses and I suppose I’ve done well as a result of the practise I’ve put in.
I play almost every day and although I think a place in the under-18 team might just be out of reach this year, I want to get in the team next year.’I’m currently playing off 11.0 and my target for this season is to get down to single figures.’La Moye’s Charles Le Sueur finished second at Winchester in the scratch section with a gross 74, net 68 off six handicap.
Club-colleague Seb Brown broke his handicap to finish on a net 69.
