At a meeting at St Thomas’ Public Hall last night, all six candidates in the by-election told an audience of around 40 people that the Finance and Economics Committee proposals – which include the scrapping of corporate tax and the imposition of a sales tax and a form of PAYE – should not be rushed through the House. The meeting was called by candidate Dick Shenton, partly to discuss the proposed tax changes, and partly to allow the candidates to speak to the public outside of the time constraints of the hustings meetings.

The five other candidates – Robert Brown, Terry Coutanche, Juliette Gallichan, Kevin Lewis and Robert Weston – all attended the meeting, which was chaired by Senator Ted Vibert.
