States police officer sacked

The States police have refused to name the man, understood to be a 51-year-old sergeant.

The officer had been suspended on full pay since November last year prior to his dismissal this week.Home Affairs president Senator Wendy Kinnard confirmed that the officer had been dismissed with immediate effect following a hearing earlier this week.

‘The dismissal related to absences and dereliction of duty,’ she said.A police spokeswoman said: ‘The three charges dealt with were part of a wider investigation and in view of the outcome of the disciplinary any further matters will now not be pursued.’The officer now has 21 days to appeal to the Police Complaints Authority.
