Ramskill won the the inaugural championship after defeating Guernsey’s Roy Corbet 3 and 2 at L’Ancresse in Guernsey on Sunday.Meanwhile Jersey’s junior champion, Alex Guelpa, suffered a 3 and 2 defeat in his CI title match against Guernsey’s Jack Mitchell.

The Sarnian reaped the benefit of some excellent approach play over the closing holes to record his win.Ramskill said: ‘I’m delighted to be champion and I was happy with my performance, in fact it was a brilliant match.

Roy was a long-standing island players up to only a few years ago so I’m delighted to have beaten him.’Conditions were great and the golf from both of us very good.

We were all-square after nine holes with eight of the scores being pars with just one bogey each at the second.’Roy won the tenth to go one up but three holes later I had a two-hole lead after a birdie at the 11th and a par on the next two holes.

He was then unable to get back at me as we parred the 14th and 15th before I won the match at the 16th when he conceded, having played five strokes while I was on the green in two.’I’m going to make the most of my success as several of the current Island side have their eyes on the title in the future.’
