Harbourmaster in plea for witnesses to boating tragedy

Mr Le Cornu, who was due to meet investigating police again this morning, said that hearsay about what had happened to the 15-foot Q IV had reached his department, but that they needed to speak to witnesses who could substantiate a version of Sunday’s events.Jersey residents Roy Spencer (46) and Terry Rennell (55), who were on board the ill-fated vessel, were pulled out of the water by the St Catherine lifeboat crew after their boat began to sink at about 1.30 pm.

Despite efforts to resuscitate them, both men were later pronounced dead at the General Hospital.

It is not known what caused the Q IV to sink.Mr Le Cornu said: ‘We have got everything post-incident but little information about what happened beforehand.

What we need is a positive sighting of where the boat went down.’
