There are subtle styling changes inside and out, reworked engines and a new dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
One of the key technological updates include new LED headlights that offer a brighter light in both low and high beam, and are available as an optional extra over the standard-fit halogen units. A further option is Mini’s matrix LED technology, which adjusts the brightness of the beam depending on the environment, such as poor weather or motorway driving.
The rear lights also use LEDs and feature a Union Jack design inspired by the Mini Electric concept released last year.
On the outside, there are three new metallic paint colours called Emerald Grey, Straight Blue and Solaris Orange. Styling revisions are otherwise limited to a new 17-inch alloy wheel design option and the addition of Mini’s new logo to the badging.
Inside, there’s a new leather seat upholstery and a piano black package for the doors, centre console and instrument panel. There’s also a new three-spoke steering wheel design, while the 6.5-inch touchscreen is now standard-fit.
Mini says revisions to its engines have made them lighter and more economical.
The entry-level option is now a three-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol that gets increased torque, while higher pressure fuel injection is present in both diesel and petrol engines.
There’s also a new dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission available on the Mini One, Cooper, Cooper S and Cooper D, which offers improved shift times and quicker acceleration. A sport version is available for the Cooper S, which adds wheel-mounted shifters to give the driver more control over gear changes.
Mini now offers an expanded version of its Connected service, available in three packages it allows the owner to sync their car with their smartphone or watch to send navigation routes to the car, get real-time traffic updates and see vehicle information such as fuel levels while away from the vehicle.
Prices for the updated Mini range will be revealed closer to delivery around March, with a slight increase expected.
