PLANS to refurbish a children’s playground in St John are a step closer to fruition after parishioners backed a spending proposal covering up to half of the funds needed.
The decision was recently made at a rates assembly, which was attended by 56 parishioners.
In addition to approving the parish accounts and the recommendation of no increase in the parish rate, parishioners also approved investing £81,000 from the special reserve fund.
This included £21,000 for the installation of additional speed indication devices and up to £60,000 towards the refurbishment of the parish children’s playground.
Constable Andy Jehan said that the latter project needed around £120,000 and explained that the parish was “talking to interested parties who have suggested they will help us”.
He added: “Parishioners supported up to £60,000 and so we are going to liaise with parents and guardians and grandparents as to the actual final design as we try and raise the other 50% of the monies.”
Mr Jehan said the intention was for the refurbishment of the playground to be completed in time for it to be “ready for the spring next year”.
He described the attendance at the rates assembly as “really good” and also highlighted the benefits that would stem from purchasing new speed indication devices, noting that data gathered from their use could help inform roads policing.
