MORE than 500 Islanders laced up their walking boots for this year’s sold-out South Coast Charity Challenge, raising £26,000 for Jersey Mencap.
The annual 15-mile coastal walk, held on Sunday 17 May this year, attracted participants of all ages – including the event’s oldest walker, who was 85 years old.
Alongside the main route, 55 Jersey Mencap members completed a shorter accessible walk from Les Jardins de la Mer to Bel Royal.
Funds raised from the event will support the charity’s programme of activities for people with learning disabilities, including art, fitness, outdoor and social sessions.

This year’s challenge also featured a surprise marriage proposal along the cliff paths, with the happy couple greeted by cheering volunteers at the finish line.
Jersey Mencap chair Eleanor Jordan said: “Our charity membership continues to grow and, importantly, the South Coast Charity Challenge fundraising ensures our team can plan ahead for our 200 members.”
Islanders are encouraged to book early if they wish to take part in the 2027 challenge, as the event has now sold out for three years in a row.
