A red weather warning continued to be in place this morning as trees were blown down on roads including Rue à la Dame in St Saviour and Route de la Trinité.
And Victoria Avenue was shut when large waves sent debris crashing over the sea wall.
Forecasters also warned that although the winds were due to ease later, gusts would remain strong and, with a large swell at this evening’s high tide, it was likely there would be traffic disruption between 5.30 pm and 8 pm.
After a red weather warning was issued on Friday, a ‘silver command’ was set up by the emergency services over the weekend to monitor the storm – named Storm Imogen – and another meeting was due to be held this afternoon.
John Rogers, chief officer for the Infrastructure Department – formerly known as TTS – today said that the Island’s flood defences had so far withstood the weather.
However, rush-hour commuters faced delays after debris which had been thrown over the sea wall resulted in Victoria Avenue being closed in both directions at about 6 am. The road was fully open by 8 am.
