Earlier this week Deputy John Le Fondré, chairman of the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel, which monitors States financial planning, said that the proposed health charge could pave the way for similar taxes to be introduced in the future, such as to pay for the new hospital.
However, Health Minister Andrew Green said that although he could not rule out additional health charges in the future, it was ‘not at the top of his list of priorities’.
He also reiterated comments made by Treasury Minister Alan Maclean that money raised from the health charge would not be used to pay for the new hospital.
