This week’s vote for Britain to leave the EU means that freedom of movement, work and residency rights for British citizens in the EU will need to be renegotiated after the UK Prime Minister gives Brussels two years’ notice that the country is leaving the union.
Likewise the rights of EU citizens to live or work in the UK and its dependent territories such as Jersey could change as existing agreements will be rescinded after the two-year period.
Chief Minister Ian Gorst said, however, that any EU immigrants already living in Jersey would not lose their rights to be here and were ‘welcome’ to be in the Island.
