Illegal snares pose injury threat to pets in St Ouen

Clive Murphy issued the warning after a dog became caught in two of the devices at Chemin de Moulin.

Despite legislation coming in to force in 2005, which states that anyone who sets the traps faces a fine of £1,000, several snares have been found throughout that area recently.

Mr Murphy said that if the latest traps had been set properly, then they could have caused serious injuries to animals passing through the area.

He said: ‘Luckily, the snares were not very good. They were quite amateurish. The part of the snare which anchors it into the ground was made of wool.’
