To encourage you to go out and make the most of the Island’s natural assets, the JEP is running Nature Watch, a monthly photographic competition and online picture gallery.

Each month we will print your best nature pictures and also share them here on our website. And one winning photographer will receive a printed canvas of their image, courtesy of Framing Workshop.

Use the form below to upload your best pictures.

This month’s theme: Wet, wet, wet

WITH shorter days ahead and sunshine now at a premium, Jersey’s countryside and its wild inhabitants tend to revert back to a more low-key lifestyle.

Nevertheless, the landscape still offers plenty of photographic opportunities, especially as woodlands gently begin their annual shutdown before winter.

To really catch the spirit of wildlife, few environments better suit the bird photographer than our wetlands and marine environments.

From now until early-springtime, an entirely new intake of waterfowl and shorebirds will take advantage of more than adequate food stocks and comparatively secure hiding places.

The ideal habitats to explore with the camera will be the Island’s main reservoirs such as Queen’s Valley, Val de la Mare and Grands Vaux.

Another great spot to aim the camera is at the wetlands and reed-beds at St Ouen’s Pond where, over the coming weeks, a terrific variety of waterbirds can be expected.

There’s even more opportunities along the shoreline where Brent geese and wading birds gather together in their hundreds.

As this is the penultimate opportunity to take part in this competition, time is now running out if you want to capture that winning photograph.

As always, go wild, get clicking, and good luck!
