The move to create a shoppers’ zone comes as the new Les Jardins car park on the Waterfront – which has nearly 220 spaces and is an annexe to the main Esplanade car park – was due to open today. The annexe has been made available to accommodate the parking displaced by the Esplanade site development.
A tow truck was called to the site earlier today to move a vehicle which was preventing workers from starting the the rezoning.
It is believed that the work will be completed by Thursday and the parking will be available to shoppers on Friday.
Transport Minister Eddie Noel said that no spaces would be lost and added.
‘The opening of Les Jardins car park has given us a great opportunity to provide more shopper spaces,’ he said.
‘These will be particularly useful when we start to refurbish Sand Street multi-storey car park and we will need to temporarily suspend some of the parking while the work is being undertaken.’
