The losing bonus point helps keep Jersey nine points clear of Ealing, who occupy the only relegation position, but it was a desperately disappointing result as a win could have virtually guaranteed a third season in the second tier of English professional rugby.

Jersey led 17-5 in the first half, with two tries from Mark McCrea, but a superb forwards display for Ealing was the bedrock for their second win over the Reds this season. Both sides only have four league matches left, with Jersey’s home game against Moseley next Saturday now taking on extra significance.
