They should have put the park at Ann Court

From Derrick Tostevin.
I HAVE to disagree with David Warr (JEP, 5 July). In the millennium year, the park was a good idea as the Gasworks area was then the only open space available and I believe £12 million was set aside for it.
But then the States, with their usual debating skills, could not make a decision for nearly 11 years and still got it wrong.
Now that Ann Court has become available, why do they want to put the town park in the middle of a commercial area, what with the gasometer, Le Seelleur’s old offices, St Helier Garage corner and other work units around Gas Place?
Why did they not put the town park in Ann Court, where there are houses and flats overlooking it and the Arts Centre just around the corner, and just a few steps from the town centre?
The States would then not have had to move all that waste ground, as they could have built a car park of four to six floors on top of it and saved a lot of money and put the car park in the place that has been used as a car park for a long time.
We, the public, would then have a car park making money and a town park as well. Simple.
