Deputy James Reed had previously said that he would make the final decision on the controversial proposal after hearing submissions from schools and parents.

But in a statement in the States yesterday, he said that he would accept a proposition by Senator Jim Perchard and give Members the final say in a vote in the States Assembly.

However, in follow-up questions, Deputy Reed indicated that there was no ‘plan B’ if the States rejected the proposal to reduce States subsidies to fee-paying schools by £4.2 million.
