At around 5.30 am this morning, police closed roads and set up diversions so the 13m RIB could be moved through town while most Islanders were still in their beds.
But the well-planned operation became a nightmare for boat owner Richard Gilpin when the new £400,000 crane being used to lift the vessel onto a trailer failed to work properly.
