At Port Soif, a new venue for the majority Jersey’s players, captain Mark Reynolds lost the toss and Jersey were put in to bat.
Reynolds said: ‘The toss made no difference, had I won it Jersey would have batted.
Hardly any of our players had played at Port Soif before, it was really windy and a difficult day in the field with the ball swirling around a lot.
‘It was a low-scoring game and we did not know if 160 for nine wickets was going to be enough.
It was very difficult to bat on, it was hard timing shots and Steve Carlyon and Dave Gorman both top-scored with 25 runs for us.
‘The majority of our batsmen reached double figures and in reply we did well with the ball – Chris Searson bowled very well while Mark Saralis was unlucky not to have taken a first ever hat-trick.
‘When you’re on a hat-trick ball the one player you want to ball to go to is Steve Carlyon – Gary Rich offered a chance at slip but unfortunately Steve didn’t take it.
‘It was blowing a hooley and all in all we dropped seven catches.
But we bowled really well and Paul Horton won the man-of-the-match award for his four wickets for 41 runs.’
