Andrew Wren (31) was given three years’ probation for indecent assault by the Royal Court yesterday after the court heard that police had twice failed to charge him over the relationship, which ended a decade ago. The prosecution said that the relationship was consensual and that the couple had never had sex. A complaint was made at the time of the offence, but no charges were brought, as police said that there was a lack of evidence. Last year Wren then revealed details of the relationship during separate child custody proceedings. Again, police claimed that there was insufficient evidence and it was only after admitting what he had done in a letter to Sir Philip Bailhache some months later, outlining his fight for access to his daughter and subsequently describing in detail what he had done ten years earlier, that Wren was finally charged. Police spoke to the victim, who said that she did not want Wren to be prosecuted, but he was charged and convicted of indecent assault earlier this year.
