Michael Gafoor, the head Jersey’s Alcohol and Drug Service, spoke out after the new UK Prime Minister signalled that the Labour government might have got it wrong. Gordon Brown has announced that the reclassification of marijuana from a class C drug to a class B one might be considered. If the drug is reclassified, it would mark a significant U-turn after the Labour government controversially changed it from a class B to a class C in January 2004. Despite that change, Jersey kept cannabis a class B drug, along with other illegal substances such as amphetamines (speed).
