Plans to show the games on screens like the one used to broadcast the Live8 concert last year are at an early stage, but have won the backing of the Constable of St Helier.
It is not clear who is behind the venture and talks seem to be at an early stage, but the Constable, Simon Crowcroft, has lent cautious support to the plan.
‘The World Cup is the biggest event in the sporting calendar and if there’s any way that town residents, and all Islanders, can get together to watch the games this summer, that would obviously be a good thing,’ he said.
