The programme was launched on Saturday and each night a different celebrity is arguing why their chosen endangered species should profit most from the money raised through the show.
The retired England footballer has been asked to represent the mountain gorilla and says that although it is a different breed from that which is kept at Durrell Wildlife Trust – the west lowland gorilla – he feels there is a strong link to the Island.
The former Hautlian worked at Durrell from the age of 16 to 18 – ‘mostly cleaning out muck’ – and his interest in conservation stems from then.
For tonight’s programme, Graeme travelled to Rwanda and was filmed just feet away from the 40-ton apes.
His first encounter was a memorable one – he was ‘pinned against a wall’ by an adult male gorilla.
