Officials from the Transport and General Workers Union and the States are due to meet this afternoon, but the likelihood of a breakthrough is slim.
Both union official Nick Corbel and States Human Resources chief executive Mick Pinel said it was likely that the offer from the Jersey Advisory and Conciliation Service (JACS) to intervene will be taken up.
Mr Corbel said that he would be contacting JACS director David Witherington to say that he would welcome the service’s assistance.
And Mr Pinel said that as the two sides remain ‘a pretty long way apart’ then it was likely the States will also accept the JACS offer of assistance.
