Jersey manager Kevin Miller says matches will bring about better competition for places and trial games have been arranged for December, January and February.

Miller said: ‘In the past players have waited to receive a letter to see if they’ve made the training squad; I’m changing that this season by giving them games.

‘Some girls seem to be going through the motions so this is a bit of a wake up call to try and make them work harder when they are playing.’ The trials will be at Les Quennevais, the first on Thursday 15 December with others following on 24 January and 28 February.

Each game will be a JFA XI against a Coca-Cola Combination Select XI, the latter taken by different managers and coaches of the ladies’ teams.

Miller’s first squad for next month includes three players who have never worn an Island jersey before and four who were not involved in the 2005 Muratti.

The JFA squad is: Aisling Farrell and Krystle Matthews (St Clement); Kathryn Porter, Rebecca Bichard (Jersey Wanderers); Kirstin Buttle-Ulvin, Becky Darts, Nina Woods (St John); Kerry Sauvage, Lauren Jéhan, Leanne Bell, Sarah Bland, Lisa McLaughlin (First Tower); Jo Fuller and Laura Finne (St Peter).
