The House decided by just one vote – 24 to 23 – against publishing details of States Members’ pay, rejecting the proposition from the Privileges and Procedures Committee, but they did agree that a voluntary register could be established.

This morning, committee vice-president Deputy Jennifer Bridge said her colleagues had failed to understand the basic principles of freedom of information.

She is now challenging her fellow States Members to publicly reveal their own pay, or defend their decision to the electorate at the end of the year.
